Athlete Spotlight – Lauren Brenneman

By Kaitlyn Sullivan

Staff Writer

The Salisbury softball team has gone 17-4 this season and 4-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Junior catcher Lauren Brenneman has been a key asset to the Gulls’ team this season. She was just named CAC player of the week for the second time, and leads the team with a batting average of .450.

What is one of your favorite memories of playing softball?

Besides beating ranked teams and winning CACs, I would have to say one of my best memories is making some of the greatest friends of my life.

How do you prepare yourself for a big game?

I usually listen to music to clear my mind. When I step onto the field, I zone into the game that lies ahead. It may be a superstition, but I also eat a Reese’s peanut butter egg before each double header.

How did it feel being named CAC player of the week for a second time?

I was shocked to be named player of the week. This is the first year I received the honor, let alone twice in one season.

What do you like to do when you are not playing softball?

I love the outdoors. When I am not on the field, I enjoy going out fishing with my family and friends.

Who has been the biggest influence in your softball career?

I would have to say my dad. He introduced me to the sport when I was eight years old. He knew I had potential to get where I am today and pushed me to make sure all of my dreams came true.

Where do you see yourself after college?

I will most likely end up going to graduate school to get my masters in either marine biology or ecology.
