The No. 19 ranked Salisbury baseball team (22-4, 10-3) defeated Gallaudet University and Allegany College last week, pushing their current winning streak to nine games. Over the course of the five wins, Salisbury tallied 82 runs while holding their opponents to only four runs.

Last Wednesday, the win here at home against Gallaudet was their second 30 run game in as many weeks. Sophomore starting pitcher Dustin Herbert improved to 5-1 on the season as he threw four perfect innings and struck out nine. Offensive table setter Cody Collins went 4-for-4, scored four times and drove in two runs. The red-hot sophomore Andrew Miller went 3-for-3 with a two run bomb, while also driving in six runs. Junior Mike Celenza, sophomore Fred Kreiger and freshman Matt Beck all connected for home runs.

The offensive firepower continued through the weekend. Last Saturday, the Gulls defeated Gallaudet 18-0 and 13-0 in the two weather shortened games. Celenza and freshman Bill Morton both taxed the Bison pitchers for solo shots. Sophomores Alex Duda (3-0) and Drew Baldwin (1-0) both tossed complete game shutouts holding Gallaudet to only three hits over both games. The three victories were Salisbury’s eight, ninth and tenth shutouts on the season.

On a perfect Sunday afternoon, Salisbury took on and defeated the visiting Gators of Allegany College, 14-2 in the first of two games. SU’s offense was provided by sophomore third baseman Brain Green who went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs, three of them coming on a big bases loaded double in the second giving the Gulls a four run lead. Morton also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Millar and Celenza both added three hits each. Sophomore Kyle Judson went five strong innings only surrendering three hits and two runs while striking out five on his way to his sixth win of the season.

In the second game of the double header, Salisbury continued to play solid baseball with a 7-2 win to close out the weekend. Chad Wolfe got his fourth win in another dominant performance. The junior only gave up three hits, one run and struck out four over five innings. The red-hot Millar continued to swing the stick well collecting two more hits as he scored twice and drove in one run. Celenza, who was hitting .451 before the weekend, also had two hits knocked in three RBIs.

This week, the Gulls will close out the CAC regular season with three games against the Stevenson University Mustangs who are currently in second place in the conference standings, four games behind the maroon and gold. The first game will be here at home on Wednesday and will be followed by a Saturday doubleheader on the road at Stevenson.
